If you have been checking out the site recently, you may be wondering how some companies get profiles and other only have text links. The initial idea behind the company profile was to promote companies that provide Drupal services. This would provide the local area with a list of companies that they can call on for help with their Drupal projects.
But the question arises about local companies who have Drupal sites. Shouldn't they have a company profile? Another goal of the site is to showcase local companies who are using Drupal, but this may not include providing Drupal services to others.
The initial idea was that a Drupal SITE would be created as a Project. The project could be associated with a user, and screenshots of the site can be attached to that project. But this doesn't necessarily make sense. The project would more likely hold information about what was used on the site, who made it, and highlight special features behind the functionality or deisgn. This may not be the right place to promote local companies that use Drupal.
So here is my recommended solution. We will leave it as it is, where ANY member can enter their company (it is an open tagging taxonomy field after all). If the company would like to create a profile on our website, they must Contact an Officer through the site contact form. This will make sure that we're not cluttering up the site with spammers and allow us to ensure that they are companies with a local presence.
Companies with profiles get a better presentation. They will be requested to provide a horizontal logo (with the understanding that it may be slightly edited to fit within the current 220px width), as well as a short description of the company, and a link to their website.
Any company that provides Drupal services will be marked as so. This way we will split "Companies Using Drupal" and "Companies Providing Drupal Services".
If you have any thoughts on the company profile, please leave a comment and let the discussions begin!
